Recipe: Rooibos (Redbush) iced tea

Phew is it hot today or what? I don’t normally post on a Friday but I just made this iced tea to help me cool down and thought I’d share it with you all. And just to prove how hot it is on the Gold Coast today…the ice blocks melted before I took the photo!

The secret ingredient to this iced tea is using Rooibos tea. Being a native South African, I grew up drinking organic rooibos tea. Rooibos is a caffeine free tea which is low in tannins and has numerous health benefits. Its a naturally sweet tasting tea which doesn’t require sugar or milk. Rooibos tea contains a high number of antioxidants and is considered to cure headaches, allergies, asthma, insomnia and hypertension.

Ingredients:

  • 2 rooibos tea bags
  • 2 strawberries
  • half cucumber
  • few mint leaves
  • ice cubes

Instructions:

  1. Boil a kettle with enough water to fill a glass jug.
  2. Once the water is boiled, pour into your jug and add tea bags. Allow the tea to brew for at least five minutes.
  3. Once the water is cooled down, add the strawberries, cucumber and mint. Stir with a spoon.
  4. Lastly, add your ice blocks and enjoy.
